Youth Connections
Program Overview
Youth Connections provides:
- Labour Market Information and Services to explore job, career and educational options Access to communication media:
(computers, internet, document sharing, telephones and photocopier)
- Mobile Labour Market services including newspapers, current electronic Employment Postings: categorized by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), National Occupational Classification (NOC) and Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) status.
- A variety of service access points including Lokken’s secure online services, Facebook, Google and text messaging.
- Employment Services (ES) assist youth to secure and maintain suitable employment. Employment Services begins with an Employability Assessment (EMP). The EMP gathers data from a variety of sources including one or more of the following assessment tools: Lokken’s Skills Development Questionnaire, the AEI Assessment Factors Handbook, a Resumé Review and Industrial Aptitude Testing, Data gathered in EMP allows us to create a profile of youths’ labour market assets. This profile is then summarized in a Service Plan to complete Job Placement. Youth in ES will complete of one or more Modules of Lokken’s Career Development (CD), Career Path Management (CPM), Job Retention (JR), Occupational Safety Training (ST) and Follow-Up (FW) courses to achieve suitable labour market outcomes. ES connects youth with employment and provides ongoing job maintenance supports to retain employment for up to one hundred and eighty days.

JR - Job Retention:
Job Retention develops the skills needed to maintain employment and take advantage of opportunities for career advancement that arise from employment. After completing JR, you will to:
- demonstrate the ability to meet employers' expectations
- make positive changes in employment
- contributing to a positive workplace
- meet your expectations as an employee
- describe your rights and responsibilities in the Alberta workplace
ST - Occupational Safety Skills:
ST-05 Basic Employee Safety Training (BEST)
FW – Follow Up:
FW-01 Three (3) months after graduation
FW-02 Six (6) months after graduation
